Fridays Off and Rollover Mondays!
In 2008 we rolled out our new "Fridays Off" four-day work week for June 1 – the first Friday of September. That's right – every Friday off from June through August.
Obviously, client service is our main focus, which means Fridays Off require a concentrated client focus Mondays through Thursdays. To qualify for the Freedom Fridays, you'll work 36 hours during the week, including observing our core office hours (or time with clients) Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (excluding lunch).
And if you have to work for some reason on a Friday, you get a "rollover Monday," taking off the following Monday instead.
Flexible Hours
At HRH, we understand that sometimes your life takes a turn and you need to adjust your work schedule. Our employees have the option to vary their work day start and end time. We only ask that you be here during the core working hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (excluding lunch).
Part-Time/Reduced Hours Schedules
We also recognize that our staff is a diverse mix of people. And that diversity brings a variety of different personal situations. We support flexible work arrangements where employees can develop a schedule designed to fit their personal needs. This may include a reduced hours work schedule or even a busy season only (January through April) schedule.
CPA Designation Perk
Because we value the effort you put into pursuing the CPA designation, we offer a CPA Designation Benefit plan which provides:
- study time at the office during business hours,
- reimbursement of exam fees,
- reimbursement of review course fees, and
- a bonus when you receive your CPA license.
Dependent Care Program
Through our Section 125 plan, HRH employees designate a portion of pre-tax compensation to pay for out-of-pocket, work-related dependent day-care costs.
Dress Code: Business Appropriate
At HRH, we are a "business appropriate" environment. It's simple. While we're a business casual environment, there may be occasions you need to wear a suit.
We trust our staff to know how to dress when meeting with clients on a client-by-client basis. If the client is in a formal business environment, a suit may be necessary one day. The next day, the client's environment may be one where khaki pants and a colored shirt works best. Of course, we expect all employees to maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times.
Now for the fun part!
We work hard to show our appreciation to our staff throughout the year. We even have a Fun Committee that devises new and unique ways to keep our people involved with the firm. Social activities include:
- Annual holiday luncheon in December
- Company picnics for family and friends at venues such as The St. Louis Zoo or Grant's Farm
- HRH Golf Scramble
- Party Room for a daytime Cardinals baseball game, and
- An indoor picnic to celebrate the kickoff the St. Louis Cardinals baseball season.
And we can't forget our happy hour at the end of Corporate Tax Season and a fabulous end-of-busy-season bowling party each April. Throughout the year, we host ice cream socials and birthday celebrations, provide catered lunches and dinners during busy season, and sponsor a company volleyball team.
To keep employees up-to-date and informed, we host an employee Intranet site, where all announcements and information (from tax manuals to party pics from firm events) can be easily accessed.

Holidays
Seven stated holidays per year are paid for full-time and permanent part-time (a minimum of 1,560 paid hours per year) employees: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, and Christmas. We typically also close the office for a day after April 15 as a thank you to our staff for their hard work during our busy time of the year.
Paid Time Off
HRH's Paid Time Off policy provides employees the flexibility to use their earned time off as they choose for vacation, doctors' appointments, sick days or family time. It's up to the employee. Full-time employees (2,080 hours per year or more) who have worked for HRH between one and five years, earn 15 days of Paid Time Off annually, which accrues monthly. Individuals hired as or promoted to manager earn 15 days of Paid Time Off annually. Plus, for professional staff, we will count recent experience with other CPA firms toward the years of service requirement.
After five years of employment, all full-time employees become eligible for 21 days of Paid Time Off.
Permanent part-time employees working at least 1,560 paid hours per year earn 10 days of Paid Time Off annually, plus one additional day for each 100 hours in excess of 1,560.
As an added benefit, we do allow a certain number of Paid Time Off days to be carried over from year to year.
Life Insurance
HRH employees are provided with life insurance by The Mutual of Omaha. Coverage is two times your annual compensation. The plan also provides accidental death and dismemberment benefits. After a six-month waiting period, employees who work at least 30 hours/week (1,560 paid hours/year) or more than five months in a calendar year are eligible to participate.
Coverage also includes $20,000 of life insurance for your spouse and $4,000 for child. HRH covers 100% of the cost of this benefit.
Long-Term Disability Insurance

Benefits begin after 90 days of disability. Employees are eligible who work at least 30 hours/week (1, 560 paid hours/year) after six months of employment with HRH. The firm pays 100% of the cost to provide this coverage.
Incentive Plan for New Business
At HRH, we know it is our staff's ability to bring in new business that keeps the firm growing strong. To that effect, we reward our employees who bring in new clients and are instrumental in retaining them as new clients to the firm. To be eligible for the incentive plan program, employees sign a Non-Compete Agreement. In return,
- employees receive 10% of the cash collections for the first year they bring a new client into the firm, and
- receive 5% for each year following whenever the realization is above a minimum level.
Employment Finder's Fee
One of the greatest compliments we receive is when one of our existing employees refers someone to us for employment. We offer a finder's fee to our referring employee ranging from $500 to $1,000 depending on the level of position. Fees are paid after 90 days of employment of the new staff member, with an additional fee of $1,500 paid after six months of employment for senior level staff. These fees are not paid on any entry level employees.
Continuing Professional Education
HRH is committed to training. In addition to the supportive and constructive feedback and coaching you'll receive while working directly with other members of the HRH team, the firm provides at least 40 hours of continuing education to our professional staff.
Missouri Professional License & MSCPA Dues
We support the MSCPA and its work by paying the dues for any member of our firm that wants to join this great organization. We also pay for CPA licenses and CPA exam fees.
